What's Up at The School of BNC

Ballet Nouveau Colorado is Expanding its Facilities!

As Ballet Nouveau Colorado grows, we are constantly discovering new and unexpected necessities to both continue to provide and improve the quality dance education you have come to expect from us. Most recently, we have discovered exciting shifts in the growth patterns of our student population. Put more simply, many of our levels are bursting at the seams. Many others will be in the very near future.

We are very pleased to announce that we will be expanding our facilities.

Part of our philosophy at BNC is that every student receives direct personal attention and room to truly move in our classes. This is precisely why we have class size limits. As we looked to the future, even to only the Fall, we discovered that we would have to start turning away large numbers of students to maintain these very important standards. We have concluded that this is simply not an option.

The new addition will be the unit directly to the west of the space we currently occupy. This addition will seamlessly integrate with our current space and will include two new studios, bringing our total to five. Furthermore, the space will provide additional dressing rooms to allow for the school’s continually growing male population and a separate office for our education staff.

Classes on July 5

Classes are held as regularly scheduled on Monday, July 5. If you will be absent, you are welcome to make up your ballet classes. Please contact the front desk to schedule make-up classes.

Nutcracker & Student Company Requirements

Are you auditioning for The Nutcracker or BNC’s Student Company in August? If so, please be sure that you have completed the number of required classes during the summer. Any requirements not fulfilled at BNC must be approved by the School Director prior to your audition. Here are the audition requirements for the 2010-2011season.

Gala DVD’s

Gala DVD’s are in! If you’ve order a DVD of the Gala Performances, you may come and pick it up during our office hours. Didn’t order a DVD? It’s not too late! Contact Joyco Multimedia 303.421.0093.

Summer Demos

We have a few class demonstrations this week! Division I and Division II will have their Musical Theatre performances on Thursday, July 8. Division I performs at 11:00am and Division II performs at 5:00pm.

2010-11 Fall Placements

Check your email! Your dancer’s 2010-11 Fall Placement will be emailed to you July 16. Once you receive your fall placement, registration will open! Here is the tentative 2010-11 Class Schedule.

Summer is in full swing here at the studios! We have some exciting things happening this week!

Summer Classes

We still have limited availability in Divisions I, II, III.1, IV and V, as well as our Pre-School Ballet and Adult Classes. Sign up now for the 4 week Summer Camp! New Saturday classes have opened for Division I.1. Call the front desk for details!

Expansion Update

Holy cow! If you haven’t been to the studios lately, stop by and peak through the windows of the expansion next door! The walls are up, the painting is almost complete and the electrical is finished! Many thanks to our volunteers for helping us over the weekend. They have worked so hard constructing and placing the sub-floor panels in the studios to save our dancers’ joints! Thank you, thank you! If you would like to help, please email Lindsay to sign-up! We will be working at the studios each weekend in July from 8:30am to 4pm.

Can’t volunteer? Please consider making a monetary donation towards the expansion. We can’t do this without your help!

BBQ

This weekend celebrates our Nation’s Independence and we are BBQing here at BNC! This Friday, we will be grilling hot dogs for lunch for just $2! All proceeds of this grilling event will go towards Boogie for BNC, our new fundraising campaign.

Classes Next Week

Classes will be held during Fourth of July Weekend as well as Monday, July 5. If you will be absent, please call or email the front desk. If you’d like, we are happy to set up a make-up class for you.

Dance Therapy Sessions

Tomorrow, June 29 from 2-3pm, Dance Medicine Specialist Jan Dunn, will be at BNC’s studios for technical assessments. These valuable assessments look at a dancer’s technique to evaluate pain and its sources. Sessions are $10 for 15 minutes. Please make checks payable to Jan Dunn. Private Lessons

Private lesson prices will be increasing for the first time for next season! Save money now and pre-pay for private lessons for the 2010-2011 season. Call the front desk for details!

Welcome to Summer 2010! We are very excited to have classes begin this week! Here are a few reminders and updates for the summer.

Street Clothes & Shoes

Even though it’s hot out, please keep street clothes over your ballet attire when entering and exiting the building. Even though it seems like we are the only ones here, there are other businesses and construction happening in the building. If it is too hot to layer clothing, make use of our dressing rooms (no changing in the restrooms, please) to change into your ballet attire. Please do not wear ballet slippers outside of the studios. Wearing ballet slippers outside can ruin your shoes and track rocks into the studios, ruining the very expensive marley dance floors.

Gala Pictures

If you ordered your Gala portraits from Misha Photography, they are in! You can pick up your photos at BNC during our office hours.

Volunteers Needed

We still need volunteers for our sub-floor construction! Each weekend in July (including the 10-11) we will need volunteers each Saturday and Sunday from 8:30-4:30. Please, please respond if you are able to stop by for even an hour! We need all of the help we can get to complete the studios and be ready to open for classes in August! Email Lindsay to sign up.

Interim Classes

Interim Classes begin this week, Monday through Friday, with daytime classes on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and evening classes on Tuesday and Thursday. Interim classes are a great way to ease back into your ballet training after vacation. Click here for the interim class schedule and cost information.

Nutcracker and Student Company Requirements

For those of you who are planning to audition for The Nutcracker or BNC’s Student Company, do a mental check. Have you signed up for at least 4 weeks of an approved summer intensive? Do you know how many ballet classes you’ll need to take in order to meet the requirements? Don’t wait until the last minute to sign up for classes as some of our levels are already full! If you have any questions, please contact the front desk, or check out the website.

This week is the last week of classes for our students in levels PSB through Ballet F. Here are some end of the season reminders!

This Week’s Schedule

Classes are held as regularly scheduled today, Monday, May 31 (Memorial Day). Ballet I through Ballet F have their last class on Wednesday, June 2. . Pre-School Ballet continues through Saturday, June 5. Adult classes continue through Saturday, July 31. Reminder: classes are mandatory this week for students participating in Gala.

Lost and Found

Please be sure to check all lockers and check the Lost and Found located in the Female Dressing Room for your dancer’s lost items. If you’ve lost any valuable items, those are kept at the front desk.

Tickets

Tickets are selling quickly for the Gala performances! Don’t risk buying your tickets at the theatre—it could be sold out! Buy your tickets ahead of time online or by calling or stopping by the front desk. Tickets printed for Will Call will be available for pick-up at the theatre during dress rehearsal.

Gala Specifics

If your dancer is performing in Gala this Saturday, you have dress rehearsal Thursday (Act II) and Friday (Act I), and performances on Saturday. There are new changes this year; please read your Gala Packet prior to dress rehearsal on Thursday. Gala is very hectic and being prepared will save you lots of time and frustration. Everything you need to know is in the packet. Please note, students in Ballet A-F are more than likely required to come to both Thursday and Friday’s dress rehearsals. Check the packet for details. If you have any questions at all, please ask the front desk ahead of time, rather than waiting until the last minute. Thank you for helping us make this year’s Gala the smoothest yet!

Summer Hours

Our limited Summer Hours will begin next week. Office hours for June 7-12 will be from 9am-4pm Monday through Friday and 9am-11am on Saturday. Office hours extend into the evenings slightly due to Interim Classes June 14-19. Be sure to register for summer during our office hours to guarantee your dancer’s spot in class!

Interim Classes

Interim Classes begin June 14! Don’t miss these great opportunities to stay in shape for the summer intensive. Interim classes also count towards part of the Nutcracker and Student Company requirements. You can pay by the class (limit of 2) or purchase a punch card. Punch cards are $101 for 6 hours, $148 for 9 hours and $227 for 15 hours.

Tiles are Back!

Tile painting is happening this week, May 24 through May 29 only. Tiles are only available through sign ups. You can sign up by responding to this email, or stopping by the front desk. Prices are $40 for 1 tile and $75 for 2! This is your last chance to buy a tile!

Boogie for BNC

We have 7 weeks left of our Spring Fundraiser Boogie for BNC! Help BNC reach its goal of $300,000 by setting up your very own personal fundraising website. Click here to register and spread the word to your friends and family! All money that is collected will go towards great rewards, including the grand prize of a loaded ipod nano! Tickets to the 2010 Gala are on sale! This event tends to sell out, please don’t wait until the last minute to purchase your Gala tickets! Tickets are $14 for adults and $8 for seniors, children and students. Tickets are available online or by calling the front desk at 303.466.5685.

This week begins mandatory classes for all Gala performing classes! Any absence between May 17 through June 2 will result in dismissal from performing in Gala. This includes classes held Memorial Day weekend. Don’t let this happen to your dancer!

Gala Costume Pick-Up

Pick up your Gala costumes this week, May 17 through May 22. Gala costume handouts will be Monday through Thursday from 3-8pm, Friday from 3-7pm and Saturday from 9-12pm. In order to receive your Gala costumes, all account balances must be paid, including late fees.

Congratulations

A huge congratulations to all of our student performers from this past weekend! BNC is so proud of you! It is such a treat to see our dancers at the very beginning of their performing careers in Pre-School Ballet Gala Celebration and later on as they explore their creative minds in Young Choreographers Showcase. Nutcracker & Student Company
