Performing Requirements

If you take summer classes at Ballet Nouveau Colorado, you may qualify to audition for this year's professional production of The Nutcracker, and/or to join BNC's Student Company.

THE NUTCRACKER

BNC's The Nutcracker has won rave reviews from critics and audiences. You can be a part of this magical holiday experience by auditioning for a student role.

Nutcracker auditions - Sunday, August 29*
10:00 - 11:30 am Ballet II, A & B
12:00 - 2:00 pm Ballet C, D & E
2:00 - 4:00 pm Ballet F & G

You may audition for The Nutcracker if:

• You are 7 years old or older by August 29, 2010.
• You have performed in at least one BNC Gala production.
• You took at least 4 full weeks of summer dance camp or intensive at BNC or an approved national summer program during the summer of 2010.
• within your 4 weeks of camp, you attended a minimum of the following ballet technique classes in your level during the summer of 2010**
• Divisions I or II - 8 ballet technique classes
• Division III (and 9+) - 12 ballet technique classes
• Division IV - 20 ballet techinque classes (minimum of 6 at BNC)
• Division V - 30 ballet technique classes (minimum of 10 at BNC)

 Fall Training Requirements for Nutcracker Participants

• Ballet I & Ballet II - 2 ballet technique classes per week
• Ballet A & B - 2 ballet technique classes per week, plus jazz or additional ballet
• Ballet C through E - 3 ballet technique classes per week, plus jazz or modern
• Ballet F - 4 ballet technique classes per week, 3 pointe classes per week, plus jazz and/or modern
• Ballet G - 5 ballet technique classes per week, 3 pointe classes per week, plus jazz and/or modern

STUDENT COMPANY

Established in 1992 our Student Company gives upper level students significant performing opportunties throughout the year. In addition to regular performances in the community, the Student Company presents a full-length spring concert. Dancers are invited to join the Student Company if they have completed at least one year in Ballet D and have met The Nutcracker summer training requirements.

Fall Training Requirements for Student Company Members

• Ballet E - 4 ballet technique classes per week, 3 pointe classes per week, contemporary, plus jazz and/or modern
• Ballet F & G - 5 ballet technique classes per week, 3 pointe classes per week, contemporary, composition, plus jazz and/or modern

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The Nutcracker participants and Student Company members pay a participation fee and must sign a contract agreeing to class and rehearsal requirements, fundraising and volunteer requirements, and a code of conduct. You can get a full list of requirements and fees by calling 303.466.5685,

*All audition times are based on 2010 Fall Placement.

** Please note: requirements are number of technique classes attended, not hours. Pointe, intensive, specialty dance classes and private lessons do not count toward these requirements.
